Here we go...the start of my journey of being a missionary. I can't believe the day has come for me to open my call. My story behind this goes as follows...
October General Conference was an amazing experience. One that, literally, changed my life. The prophet of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, President Thomas S. Monson, announced that the age of missionaries to be able to go serve missions for the church had changed. Initially I thought, hey that's great for the guys who get to serve at 18 now instead of 19...but then Pres. Monson continued on by saying that Young Women who are worthy, willing and able could serve at age 19 instead of 21!! Holy moly. That's HUGE. I looked at my dad and started crying when he asked if I was going and I just sat there looking at him and said yeah...I'm going. It was a moment of total excitement and amazement for me. That's when everything just changed for me. I started on my mission papers as soon as I could and had them ready to turn in a month before I could actually turn them in haha. A little ambitious? maybe.....Well after waiting practically since October, I finally received my call today, I even had to wait an extra day haha (we'll thank the snow...). I have been called to serve in the Birmingham Alabama mission, English speaking and cannot wait to go serve and bring people the happiness they need so they can live with their Heavenly Father again.
I hope all who are trying to decide if they want to go on a mission or not will decide prayerfully. I cannot wait to go and am so happy about my mission to serve the Lord for 18 months. I know that it is the right thing for me, it may not be for everyone and that is perfectly okay, we always need missionaries at home. These next few months of preparation will be exciting and probably hectic between school and working but it will be so amazing to get things underway for my adventure.
